ANITA "THE LIVING DOLL"
A 1x2½ clipped photograph of the circus performer, signed in blue ink as simply "Anita". An extremely rare signature!
Printed Photograph signed in Ink: "Anita", in blue ink, Sepia 1x2½. Although not much is known about her past, Anita "The Living Doll" (b. 1882) made a big splash in the early 1910's circus scene due to her small stature, which was reportedly only 26 inches high and 13 pounds of weight. While she was marveled at for her height, Anita was remarkable for being highly intelligent, mastering German, English, French, and her native Hungarian. She was also known for her fashionable tastes, usually traveling with a large amount of luggage with the latest fashions. Anita was often written to have traveled to many exotic countries and have met with royal families across the globe; while many of it may be a fabrication, she did meet with Queen Mary and King George V of Great Britain, accepting a bouquet from the Queen at the World's Fair of 1912. Mounting residue on verso. Slight scratches on surface of image. Top left corner creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
