She signs a First Day Cover honoring Silent Screen Stars
First Day Cover signed: "Ann Rutherford" 6½x3½. First Day
Cover honoring silent screen stars, postmarked San Francisco, California,
April 27, 1994, 29-cent Harold Lloyd stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE.
Cachet pictures Theda Bara, Rudolph Valentino and Charlie Chaplin. At MGM from
1937, Ann Rutherford (1917-2012) gained minor stardom as Polly
Benedict in the studio's Andy Hardy series. She was allowed to
display her perky comic gifts in a trio of 1940s mystery-comedies co-starring
Red Skelton (Whistling in the Dark, Whistling in Dixie,
Whistling in Brooklyn), and was quite appealing as Carreen O'Hara in
Gone With the Wind. She closed out her film career in 1950 to devote
more time to her private life; thereafter limiting her activity to her annual
appearance as Suzanne Pleshette's mother on TV's The Bob Newhart Show.
Lightly creased. Fine condition.
