ANN SOTHERN (1909-2001), born Hariette Arlene Lake in Valley City, North Dakota) was trained as a vocalist before making her film debut under her birth name in the early Warner sound musical, The Show of Shows (1929). After success on Broadway, she returned to Hollywood in 1933 and found her niche as a lighthearted heroine, especially in the role of Maisie Ravier, which she performed in ten films (1939-1947). Sothern also starred in two TV series: Private Secretary (1953-1957) and The Ann Sothern Show (1958-1961). She was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for her last film, The Whales of August(1987). JEAN PARKER (1915-2005) often played ingénue roles. Among her prominent films were Lady for a Day (1933), Little Women (as Beth, 1933), Sequoia (1934), as well as The Ghost Goes West (1935). She continued to appear in Westerns into the 1960s, including an acclaimed role in The Lawless Streets (1955). MIRIAM LA VELLE (b. 1927) was an acrobatic dancer featured in New York musical reviews and cabaret shows of the 1940s. She had dance roles in several films during World War II, including Meet the People and Seven Days Ashore (both 1944). She disappeared from public view when cabaret variety shows waned in popularity after 1950. The Hollywood Canteen offered soldiers and sailor's food and entertainment hosted by celebrity stars during World War II. Edges frayed. Lightly toned and creased. Finger print imprints at center. Sticker affixed at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
