ANNA HANSON DORSEY. Autograph Quotation signed: "'Then at the balance let's be mute/We never can adjust it,/What's done we partly may compute/But know not what's resisted.'/Anna Hanson Dorsey", 4½x2¾. Anna Hanson Dorsey (1815-1896) wrote poems, essays and novels. She married Baltimore judge Owen Dorsey in 1837. A convert to Catholicism (1840), Dorsey wrote the first book by a Catholic (Mary Brooke) to be published in Scotland since the Reformation. Mounting adhesive remnant on verso shows through lightly.
