in the title role from Nell Gwynn (1935), in which she played Charles
II's bawdy mistress. Th film was directed by her future husband, Herbert
Wilcox, whom she married in 1943. Anna Neagle (1904-1986) moved from dance
roles to acting in the theatre and then onto movie screens. Extremely
popular in her native England, Neagle specialized in light comedies, but could
play roles as diverse as Queen Victoria and Peter Pan. She became a Dame of
the British Empire in 1970. Fine condition.
