ANNA NEAGLE
She signs a typed letter praising the career of her late brother, Stuart, and adds an autograph note on verso.
Typed Letter signed: "Anna Neagle/P.T.O.", 1 page, 8x10. Also initialed on verso: "A.N.W." Aldford House, Park Lane, (London), 1959 January 7. On personal letterhead to "Dear Mr. Benbow", in full: "I am enclosing an outline of Stuart's life and career which I hope is what you would like for inclusion in the Royal College of Music's magazine. I also enclose the obituaries from The Times and The Manchester Guardian, to-gether with a detailed report of his more recent work in the Film Industry, which has been sent me by the permanent secretary of the British Film Producers Association. From all this material I think you may find the information you need. I know how much Mrs. Robertson appreciates the suggestion that my brother's work shall be included in the magazine, as his association with The Royal College of Music meant so much to him. With kindest regards, Sincerely yours". Her autograph note on verso reads, in full: "P.S. As I have been at the Studios all day it has not been possible to get a clean copy typed. I am so sorry." Anna Neagle (1904-1986) moved from dance roles to acting in the theatre and then onto movie screens. Extremely popular in her native England, Neagle's early films were all directed by Herbert Wilcox, whom she married in 1943. Neagle specialized in light comedies, but could play roles as diverse as Queen Victoria and Peter Pan. She was made a Dame of the British Empire in 1970. Her performing career spanned nearly sixty years. Her brother, actor/singer Stuart Robinson (1901-1958) appeared in some of the Wilcox/Neagle films. Light mailing folds, center vertical folds crossing ""na" of signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
