ANNA ROOSEVELT
Anna Roosevelt sends a typed letter of thanks for the book.
Typed Letter Signed: "Anna Roosevelt Halstead", 1p, 8½x11. Washington, D.C., 1970 October 22. To Miss Stella K. Hershan, Forest Hills, New York. In part: "I am truly grateful to you for your thoughtfulness in sending me a copy of your most interesting book - A WOMAN OF QUALITY - Eleanor Roosevelt, and of course, I am very grateful for your warm inscription. I remember when we talked (wrote) about your plans for this book and have often wondered since how you had progressed. You indeed 'progressed' most interestingly and charmingly and, I believe, have made a true and valuable contribution in helping people to 'know' Mother and to understand some of her very great qualities...." ANNA ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, born on May 3, 1906 in New York City, was the oldest child and only daughter of Eleanor and Franklin. Named after her mother, Anna served as an aide to her father from December 1943 until his death. She was married three times: to stockbroker Curtis B. Dall in 1926 (divorced 1934); to John Boettiger, Jr., the Washington correspondent of the Chicago "Tribune", in 1935 (he committed suicide in 1950); and, to Dr. James A. Halstead in 1952. STELLA K. HERSHAN's 256-page biography, Eleanor Roosevelt - A Woman of Quality, was published by Crown in 1970. In 1993, her additional work on the former First Lady, The Candles She Lit: The Legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt, was published. Lightly creased, 3 irregular and torn file holes at left blank margin (all paper intact). Fine condition.
