ANNA ROOSEVELT. TLS: "Anna Roosevelt Halstead", 1p,
8¼x11. Washington, D.C., 1966 December 20. To Miss Stella K.
Hershan, Forest Hills, N.Y. In full: "Please forgive me for taking
so long to answer your kind letter of December 7th. Unfortunately I have had to
be away from home a good deal during these last few days. I am interested to
hear of the book about my Mother which you are working on. It seems a wonderful
idea to collect stories and anecdotes about her from all types of people. I also
enjoyed a great deal reading your little story 'My Visit with Mrs. Roosevelt'
because of its sensitive understanding. Unfortunately, I am a poor one when it
comes to helpful suggestions. You might, however try Mrs. Joseph P. Lash at 245
West 11th Street, New York City. She and her husband were close friends of
Mothers. Her husband, however, is doing research for a biography of Mothers
[sic] and therefore they may not wish to 'talk'.Nevertheless, they might be willing to share with you some little
anecdote which he does not intend to include in his book. The only other
suggestion I have is that you make an appointment to see Miss Drewry, Director
at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library, Hyde Park. She saw a good deal of Mother
at the library during the last years of Mother's life. With all good wishes to
you in your interesting endeavor, and special Seasons Greetings, I am,
Sincerely," ANNA ROOSEVELT, (1906-1975) was the oldest child and
