ANNA SOSENKO
The business manager writes about sending captioned photographs to
John Willis, Editor of Theatre World
Autograph letter signed: "Anna Sosenko", in blue ink, 6¼x6.
In full: "Dear Mr. Willis: - I am getting some captioned photos of the
Sugar Tribute. It will take 2 weeks - I'll then send them on with a program - of
the show. I hope this is time enough before publication. Sincerely". Post
script: "If there are any questions - you can phone me anytime after 1
p.m.". A business manager and producer in an industry dominated by men,
Anna Sosenko (1909-2000) had been the manager of Hildegarde, one of the most
celebrated cabaret stars of the 1930s and 1940s. Miss Sosenko wrote the song,
"Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup" for her and also created a hit radio talk show,
The Raleigh Room, for Hildegarde. Over the last quarter century, Miss
Sosenko put her vast knowledge of theatre and music to work, conceiving and
producing star-studded musical evenings that honored the greats of the theatre.
A congenial, outspoken and intense woman, Anna Sosenko probably knew more of the
great stars of the theatre of the last 60 years than anyone. The success of
Berle's first television series, The Texaco Star Theater (1948-1953),
proved that television could compete effectively with radio, stage and screen as
an entertainment medium. Slightly soiled. Corners and edges lightly worn.
Corners creased. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine
condition.
