Price: $420.00
ANNA SOSENKO, CO-SIGNED: FLORENCE DESMOND
Desmond and Sosenko signed this contract in 1947 in order to have Desmond
appear on an episode of Sosenko's The Campbell Room
Contract signed "Anna Sosenko" for Sosenko Productions, Inc.
and "Florence Desmond" . Also signed by a representative of the
William Morris Agency. With rider stapled to contract initialed "F. D."
by Desmond. 1 page, 8½x13, with 8x2 rider stapled to contract. Jan. 13,
1947. Desmond signed this contract in order to appear on the Jan. 19, 1947
episode of The Campbell Room, produced by Sosenko at CBS's studios in New
York City and sponsored by (what else?) Campbell Soup Company. Desmond was to be
paid $500 for her appearance. Desmond was at a low point in her show biz career
when she signed this contract. Her last movie before this contract was signed
was 1940's Hoots Mon!, and her next movie, Three Came Home, was
still three years off in 1950. The only acting credit that we can find for her
at this time was a 1946 musical comedy on Broadway called If the Shoe
Fits. A business manager and producer in an industry dominated by men,
SOSENKO (1909-2000, born in born in New York City) produced the hit radio
talk show The Raleigh Room, sponsored by Raleigh cigarettes and hosted by
the entertainer Hildegarde. The show's theme song, Darling Je Vous Aime
Beaucoup, was written by Sosenko who was also Hildegarde's manager. (The
song was later made famous by Nat King Cole) Sosenko put her vast knowledge of
theatre and music to work, conceiving and producing star-studded musical
evenings that honored the greats of the theatre. A congenial, outspoken and
intense woman, Anna Sosenko probably knew more of the great stars of the theatre
of the last 60 years than anyone. DESMOND (1905-1993, born Florence
Dawson in London, England) was a British actress, comedienne and impersonator.
Most of her films roles were in the 1930s, but she appeared in one as late as
1969 (Some Girls Do). Lightly toned, creased and rippled. Staple in
contract in upper left corner. Contract folded four times and unfolded. Contract
has light tears on left edge. Top and bottom of rider have been cut from larger
sheet. Rider has been folded once near left edge. Otherwise in fine
condition.
