Photograph inscribed and signed: "A Cecilia Galvey/Sympathetiquement/Annabella". B/w, 3½x5½. Captioned in lower margin. Annabella was the stage name of French actress Suzanne Georgette Charpentier (1907-1986), who made her screen debut in Abel Gance's recently re-discovered silent masterpiece, Napoleon (1927). By the 1930s she was a major star in French films (Le Million, 1931; Hotel du Nord (1938). This won Hollywood's attention, and she co-starred with Henry Fonda in Wings of the Morning (1937). While filming Suez in 1938, she met Tyrone Power, to whom she was married from 1939 to 1948. Her last major English-language film was 13 Rue Madeleine (1947). Soiled and lightly crease. ½" chip in surface at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
