Autograph sentiment signed and dated by her in 1871
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Very truly yours/Anne Seguin/21st Street Octr 1871", 1 page, 4¾x7½. Ink note (unknown hand) beneath Anne's signature gives the date of her death. Newspaper clipping at lower left lists cites a comic opera, Zampa, by Louis J. F. Herold, in which Anne Seguin and her husband Edward appeared in 1841. English soprano ANNE CHILDES SEGUIN (1809-1888), who had trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London, joined the National Theatre in New York before forming the Seguin Opera Troupe with her husband, operatic bass singer Edward Seguin (1809-1852), also English. The company brought the first translated performances of operas to the U.S. and introduced three operas by U.S. composers. Anne Seguin, who made her debut with the National Theatre in 1839, remained in New York to teach voice following the death of her husband. Lightly creased and soiled. Unevenly toned area. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Otherwise, fine condition.
