ANN IVES
The actress sends requested photographs to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, and thanks him for his inclusion
Autograph letter signed: "Anne Ives", in blue ink, 6½x9½. November 3, 1973. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis, Inclosed are two photos for your choice. Appreciate being represented in your volumes. Thank you". Actress of stage and film, Anne Ives (1886-1979) began her acting career in 1906 with the Broadway play The Chorus Lady (1906), and later appeared in 5 more Broadway plays, including Masquerade (1959) and Uncle Vanya (1973). Outside of theatre, she appeared in a select few films and television roles, most notably in the original film version of The Producers (1967). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Light surface creases. Fine condition.
