The wife of mobster Meyer Lansky signs check for $11.43 in black ink
Check signed: "Anne Lansky" in black ink. 6¼x2¾. January 10, 1939. Check drawn from the account of Anne Lansky at The National Shawmut Bank in Boston, Massachusetts. Payable for $11.43 to the Boston Edison Co. (not endorsed on verso). Anne Lansky, the former Anna Citron, married mob financial wizard Meyer Lansky in 1929. The marriage, which produced three children, sons Bernard ("Buddy") and Paul and daughter Sandra, ended in divorce in 1946. It is said that Meyer kept his family away from mob business, but Anne became semi-psychotic and their children had miserable lives. Meyer's second marriage, to Thelma "Teddy" Schwarr in 1948, is said to have fared somewhat better. They were married until his death in 1983 (Teddy died in 1997). Edges perforated. Toned. Ink bank stamps throughout. Bank cancellation hopes in center. Small tear along left edge. Soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
