Autograph note signed: "Anne Marsh" in black ink. 1 page,
4½x6. In full: "My dear Emily, I shall be delighted to comply with
your request ever yours truly affectionate". Anne Marsh-Caldwell
(1791-1874) was a popular English novelist during the Victorian
period. Born Anne Caldwell, she married Arthur Cuthbert Marsh in 1817 and
began her writing career in 1834. Focusing on the life in the upper middle class
and the lower ranks of the aristocracy during the Victorian period, her books
were published anonymously and included Two Old Men's Tales
(1834), Father Darcy, an Historical Romance (1846), The
Previsions of Lady Evelyn, The Heiress of Haughton (1856), and
The Rose of Ashurst (1867), she furthermore wrote the nonfiction
piece The Protestant Reformation in France and the Huguenots
(1847). Irregularly cut. Toned. Creased throughout. Adhesive stains and
tears on verso. Pencil notes in bottom margin in unknown hand. Stained
throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
