ANNE MURRAY
Black and white publicity photograph of Ann Murray wearing white and looking glamorous
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Toby,/Kind/regards,/Anne Murray". B/w, 8x10. Canadian-born singer Anne Murray (born 1945), who has sold close to 50 million albums and won four Grammy Awards over the past three decades, paved the way for such future Canadian divas as Celine Dion, Shania Twain, k.d. lang, Alanis Morissette and Sarah McLachlan. After beginning her career in 1966 as a performer on the popular TV series, Singalong Jubilee (at a salary of $71.50 as a singer or $99.00 as a soloist), Murray appeared on a cast album, resulting in the release of her first solo album, What About Me (1968). Her second album included "Snowbird", which became one of North America's most played songs in 1970. Her career took off, with appearances on TV variety shows and hits on both the pop and country charts. She received her first Grammy Award (Best Country Vocal Performance - Female) for "Love Song" in 1974, and was later awarded Grammys for Best Pop Vocal - Female for "You Needed Me" (1978), Best Country Vocal Performance - Female for "Could I Have This Dance" (1980) and Best Country Vocal Performance - Female for "A Little Good News" (1983). Murray, who continues to tour and record, has also received numerous other awards, including three American Music Awards, nine RPM Awards, 21 Juno Awards (Murray was inducted into the Juno Hall of Fame in 1993), three Country Music Association Awards, three Canadian Country Music Association awards (inducted into the Canadian Country Music Association Hall of Fame in 1986) and an Academy of Country Music Award. Slightly creased at corners. Fine condition.
