ANNE PITONIAK
Award-winning actress sends letter to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, about the latest phone conversation they had
Autograph letter signed: "Anne Pitoniak" in black ink. 2 pages, 5x7¾ flat, 5x4 folded. Original envelope included. New York City, New York. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis...Thank you very much for your phone call - and later mailing me the Theatre World Award Party...I am sure you understood, as we talked, how very tickled and humored I am. Thank you again. I will be able to attend - as of now I will be coming alone...Happy days to you - and thanks to you. Sincerely - ". Actress Anne Pitoniak (1922-2007) was an American actress known for her stage work, being nominated for two Tony's in her 20 year career. She also received two Theatre World Awards, one for 'night, Mother (1983) and another for Talking With (1983). In addition to her stage work, she appeared in a number of television roles, most notably as Mrs. Irene Sullivan Third Watch (2000). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Edges frayed. Light surface creases. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
