Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Ann Ritchie/Best Wishes/Anne Revere". B/w, 8x10. Publicity photograph for the 1946 gothic thriller, Dragonwyck, which featured Revere as Abigail Wells. The film starred Gene Tierney, Walter Huston, Spring Byington and Vincent Price, in his pre-horror film days. Captioned at lower margin. Stage, screen and television actress Anne Revere (1903-1990), a descendent of Paul Revere, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for National Velvet (1945) and was also nominated for the Best Actress Oscar in 1943 for The Song of Bernadette and in 1947 for Gentleman's Agreement. Revere, who made her Broadway debut in 1931, and her film debut in 1934, also appeared in such films as The Thin Man Goes Home (1944), Body and Soul (1947) and A Place in the Sun (1951). Blacklisted during the McCarthy era, she returned to Broadway, winning a Tony Award for Toys in the Attic (1960). The veteran character actress was also seen as a guest star on a long list of television shows. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Surface creases and striations (most not evident head on). Defects from original negative have reproduced at facial image and background, portion of caption is faded (all legible). File nicks at blank left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
