ANNE SEYMOUR
Signed and annotated typed letter regarding her family and an earthquake she
encountered
Typed Letter Signed: "Anne Seymour," 6¼x7. To Janet Nuccio on the 1st of March. Includes
handwritten notes in the margins. In Part: "Thank you for worrying about me in the quake.
It was terrifying here in Westwood…it was like that awful moment when a great ship teeters
on top of a high wave…" Character actress Anne Seymour (1909-1988) was from a
7-generation acting family which included her brothers James and John Seymour. She made
her Broadway debut in Mr. Moneypenny (1928), but her fine voice earned her greatest success
on radio. For 11 seasons she played the title heroine in The Story of Mary Marlin
(1934-1945). She was seen frequently on the TV playhouses of the 1950s, and made guest
appearances - usually as a kindly matron - in series of the 1960s and 1970s. Her feature film
roles were fewer, but distinguished. She played Lucy Stark in All the King's Men (1949), and
made her last appearances as a small town newspaper editor in Field of Dreams (1989).
