Annie Croft (1896-1959) was an English stage actress who gained international fame throughout Europe, Australia and the United States.  A singer since the age of 5, Croft hit the London stages performing Shakespearean classics, winning over audiences with her portrayals of Juliet (Romeo and Juliet) and Viola (The Twelfth Night).  She was introduced to theatre impresario Robert Courtneidge who kept her in leading roles on London stages for five years. She also was a regular performer at the London Hippodrome's revues of The Peep Show and Brighter London. Croft made her Australian premiere in 1928 at His Majesty's Theatre in Brisbane, performing the title role of The Girl Friend. Croft and Shepard are the parents of famous director David John Croft (OBE). Silvering at edges (lightly touching signature, still legible). Corners slightly creased and rounded.
