ANIKA SORENSTAM
Swedish golfer Annika Sörenstam (born in 1970) is one of the most
successful women golfers in history. By the start of 2007, she had won 69
official LPGA tournaments, including ten majors, and she topped the LPGA
money list with earnings of over $20 million. The winner of at least five
tournaments every year between 2000-2005, Sörenstam has won eight Rolex
Player of the Year Awards, and her records include the lowest score in a
single round (59 at the 2001 Standard Register PING tournament) and
lowest scoring average for one season (68.6969 in 2004). Although she
qualified for the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2000, she was not eligible for
induction until finishing her tenth year on the LPGA tour. In 2003, she was the
first international player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame through the
LPGA criteria. In 2007, Sörenstam will host her own LPGA tournament
at RiverTowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She is the author
of Golf Annika's Way, a combined autobiography and golf instructional
book that was released in 2004.
