ANSWERS FOR AMERICANS TV CAST
Host Hardy Burt, and panelists Frank Howley, Devin Garrity and John K. Norton are shown on the set. Burt has inscribed; all four have signed.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To George -/the only guy/who can make me/look even half -way/human Hardy Burt", "Frank Howley", "John K. Norton", "Devin Garrity". B/w, 10x8. Answers for Americans was a weekly ABC-TV panel discussion of political and social issues (1953-1954). Commentator HARDY BURT, a veteran of the long-running public affairs TV program Chronoscope, hosted the show. Many clips of interviews by Burt can be viewed on the internet. FRANK HOWLEY (b. 1903), formerly an advertising executive, became a US Army staff officer during World War II. In 1945, by then a colonel, he was placed in command of the US occupation garrison in Berlin, and later played a key role in the Berlin Airlift. After leaving military service as a brigadier general in 1949, he wrote a memoir, Berlin Command. In 1939, DEVIN GARRITY inherited his father's book publishing company, Devin-Adair, which had formerly specialized in Irish poetry and ornithology. Devin Garrity shifted the company's focus to political themes: conservatism and anti-communism. JOHN K. NORTON was a Professor of Education at Columbia University's Teachers College (1938-1950), and headed the National Education Association's Educational Policies Commission. From 1959 to 1961 he was an education policy advisor to the government of India. Lightly toned and creased. Corners creased and worn. Notch at center top edge. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
