Sports card signed: "Antonio Alfonseca", in blue felt tip, 2½x3½. Antonio Alfonseca (b.1972) played for the Marlins, Cubs, Braves, Rangers and Phillies between 1997 and 2007. A pitcher from La Romana, Dominican Republic, Alfonseca was signed as an amateur free agent in 1989. He spent nearly a decade in the minors before getting called up to the Majors. Nicknamed, "El Pulpo" or "The Octopus" Alfonseca served strictly as a reliever in his major league career. He played the most seasons with the Marlins and later the Cubs, seeing brief single season stints everywhere else. The 2000 National League Relief Man of the Year, Alfonseca won the 1997 World Series as a member of the Florida Marlins team. His win-loss record stands at 35-37 with a 4.11 ERA and 400 strikeouts.
