The nineteenth-century congressional delegate from the Territory of
New Mexico, signs name in black ink
Signature: "Antonio Joseph/ Ojo Caliente./ N. Mex." in black
ink. 6¾x1¾ clipping. Antonio Joseph (1846-1910) was a congressional
delegate from the Territory of New Mexico. A native of New Mexico, he
engaged in mercantile pursuits until focusing on local politics, serving as a
member of the Territorial House of Representatives in 1882. Joseph was
elected as a delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, and would serve five
terms in Washington until 1895. Upon his return he was a member of the
Territorial Senate (1896-1898), as well as the proprietor of multiple local
hotels and lands. Irregularly cut. Left edge frayed. Small pinpoint stains
throughout. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
