Watergate Special Prosecutor.
Engraving signed: "Archibald Cox", 8x6 White House vignette card.
Archibald Cox (1912-2004), a former US Solicitor General (1961-1965),was appointed and later fired as Watergate Special Prosecutor by
President Nixon. Attorney General Elliott Richardson resigned, and his
deputy, William Ruckelshaus, was fired. Neither would dismiss Cox, who was
finally fired by Solicitor General Robert Bork. Cox had asked Nixon to surrender
the Watergate tapes. Ironically, his great-grandfather, William E. Evarts,
served as President Johnson's Chief Counsel in his impeachment trial proceedings
in 1868. Cox, a longtime professor at Harvard Law School, was the author of
several books. Fine condition.
