ARLENE FONTANA
The actress and performer pens a rare signature on a 3½x5½ publicity
photograph wearing a tight mermaid style dress
Inscribed photograph signed: "Sal/Love/Arlene", in blue ink,
B/w 3½x5½. Arlene Fontana (1936-1990) was an actress and performer,
known for her role in national company of The Flower Drum song. She started
signing and performing while still young, taking dance lessons at 10 years
old and performing in local variety shows at 14. When her family moved to
Miami after high school, she performed in local night clubs, which helped her
get noticed to record two albums: "Easy" and "I'm In Love". Her biggest
break came in the role of Linda Low in The Flower Drum Song, appearing
in almost 2,000 performances as the character. Unfortunately, despite her
big dreams, Fontana never went quite main stream, but still remains a notable
figure in theatre history. Corners slightly worn. Slightly toned. Fine
condition.
