ARLENE LUDWIG
The Disney studios publicist writes, "I'm proud to be a collector," in this typed letter to John Willis, chief editor of Theatre World
Typed letter signed: "Arlene Ludwig," 1 page, 8½x11. Burbank, California, September 25, 1974. To: "Dear John [Willis]." In full: "My collection of Screen World (s) is growing and no sooner do I receive my current one, than I start thinking about next year's. And you don't forget to have your publisher send me one year after year; how thoughtful and I'm terribly grateful! Where else can your garner all that information between two covers? You continue to do a masterful job and I'm proud to be a collector. Thanks again. Warmest regards." Long time Disney publicist Arlene Ludwig followed her father's, the legendary Irving Ludwig, footsteps and became a publicist for the Buena Vista Walt Disney Studios. For the last 50 years, Ludwig has managed publicity for Disney's feature films, including Miracle of the White Stallions, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast and Pirates of the Caribbean. In 2012, presented by the award-winning actresses Julie Andrews and Jodie Foster, Disney Studios honored Ludwig with a special award for her lifetime of work. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Creased, toned around edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
