Photograph inscribed and signed: "À Warren Perkins/de tout couer [with all my heart]/Arletty". B/w, 4x6. Caption by a French TV network. French actress and model Arletty (1898-1992, born Léonie Marie Julie Bathiat) was a popular music hall and cabaret attraction in the 1920s, before making her stage debut in 1920 and her first film appearance in 1930. She starred in films of noted director Marcel Carné: Hotel du Nord (1938) and Les Enfants du Paradis (1945). Imprisoned in 1945 for an affair with a German Luftwaffe officer, she commented, "My heart is French, but my ass is international." Arletty made a brief appearance in the English-language film The Longest Day (1962), but an accident the following year nearly blinded her and ended her acting career. She appeared on a French collector's coin issued in 1995 to commemorate 100 years of films. Lightly worn at edges. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
