ARNOLD PALMER and BOBBY NICHOLS
Both sign a 7x8½ illustration promoting ABC-TV's coverage of the 1965 PGA Tournament.
Illustration signed: "Arnold Palmer", "Bobby Nichols". B/w, 7x8½. Also pictured are Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. Accompanying printed text promotes ABC-TV's live coverage of the event, August 14-15, 1965. Legendary golfer ARNOLD PALMER (1929-2016) won seven major championships during his career, including four Masters Tournament (1958, 1960, 1962, 1964). His 62 PGA Tour victories rank fifth all time, behind Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Sam Snead. Palmer was the first golfer to earn more than $1,000,000 in PGA tournament money. He is credited with popularizing professional golf during the late 1950s and 1960s. Palmer even has a drink named after him! Professional golfer BOBBY NICHOLS (b. 1936) was active on the PGA tour from 1960-1985 then moved on the Champions Tour (Seniors). The biggest of Nichols' 11 PGA Tour victories came at the 1964 PGA Championship, where he topped Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer by three strokes. His 271 total was a PGA Championship record until Nick Price broke it in 1994. Nichols was a member of the 1967 U.S. Ryder Cup team and was one of the three players struck by lightning at the 1975 Western Open. Palmer, who won the other three "major" tournaments a total of 7 times, never won the PGA Championship. Tape residue on left and right edges. Surface creases and scratches. Otherwise, fine condition.
