Company. Shaw, (1909-1989) was an author and songwriter who's mainly
known for his books on 20th century American popular music. He's most well-known
for his 1969 book The Rock Revolution: What's Happening to Today's Music
and for Honkers and Shouters: The Golden Years of Rhythm and Blues, as
well as books on Frank Sinatra and Harry Belafonte, African-American music and
popular music from the 1920's and 1950's. He also founded the Research Center
for Popular Music at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas in 1958, which is
still active. He had less impact as a songwriter, entering the popular music
industry in the 1940s as a pianist and songwriter. His most famous compositions
include The Mod Moppet: Seven Nursery Rhyme Ripoffs, with lyrics by
Rosemary Benet and Steven Vincent Benet. He became a music executive in 1945,
joining the Edward B. Marks Music Corporation, where he spent most of his
career. He also handled public relations for artists like Elvis Presley, Burt
Bacarach and Paul Simon. Lightly toned and creased, otherwise in fine
condition.
