Inscribed Photograph signed: "For/ Shirley/ from your friend/ Arnold Stang" in black ink, sepia,
5x7¼. Comedian and stage, screen, and television actor Arnold Stang (1925-2009) had
worked steadily on radio in supporting roles to Eddie Cantor, Jack Benny, and Milton
Berle before moving to television with Berle from 1953-1955. Stang, who had first
appeared on the Broadway stage at the age of 12, made his film debut in My Sister Eileen
(1942). He would go on to appear in a considerable number of movies including Dondi
(1961), It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), Ghost Dad (1990), and Dennis the
Menace (1993), as well as The Man With the Golden Arm (1955), in which he played Frank
Sinatra's loyal pal, Sparrow. Additionally, Stang was heard in a long list of features as the voice
of "Herman" in Paramount's "Herman and Katnip" films, and he voiced the "Hoiman"
character for TV's Matty's Funday Funnies (1959), for which he was also a writer.
Furthermore, Stang voiced Top Cat (1961-1962), and he appeared as a guest star on a
number of TV shows in everything from sitcoms to Westerns, including a recurring role on
The Goldbergs (1954-1955). Lightly creased. Pencil notations in an unknown hand on verso.
