Signed Original Art on a First Day Cover, picturing himself wearing a wreath
and penning a holiday message
Original Art signed: "Cheers/Art Bimrose", 6½x3½. He has drawn a
self-caricature, wearing a Christmas wreath, drawing the word "Cheers" from a
dripping pen. Drawn on a First Day Cover of a Season's Greetings stamp,
postmarked Holiday, California, October 23, 1987, 22-cent stamp affixed,
FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Art Bimrose (1912-1999) became a staff artist with The
Oregonian, Portland's leading newspaper, in 1937. From 1947 until his
retirement in 1983, Bimrose was the paper's full-time editorial cartoonist. His
work is on display in many museums, including the JFK and LBJ Presidential
Libraries. Fine condition.
