Art Buchwald (1926-2007), a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, spent most
of the 1950s in Paris, writing various columns referring to life in the United
States and Europe. After returning to the United States from Europe in 1962, he
began a syndicated humor column heavy on political satire. Based at The
Washington Post, Buchwald appeared in over 500 newspapers at his peak. In
1982, Buchwald was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Outstanding Commentary.
He wrote over forty books, his last one titled Beating Around the Bush (2005).
In early 2006, Buchwald entered hospice, refusing dialysis for his failing kidneys
and other extreme treatments to prolong his life. He continued to give television
interviews and write occasional columns until he passed away. Fine condition.
