Typed Letter signed: "Art", 1p, 8½x11. Beverly Hills, California, 1997 June 4. To actress/comedienne Phyllis Diller. In full: "Congratulations! Arriving at your 80th birthday and still going strong is a tribute to your genes and your material. As the kid said to me when I told him I as 84 ... 'how high do you want to go?' I send these best wishes with mixed emotions since my personal appearance schedule has long since blocked our July 17. I will be in Northern California celebrating my own 85th birthday with the famed Bohemian Club under the redwood trees alongside the Russian River and I am committed to it because I am the guest of honor, and it would sound very strange if I said that I could not be there because I was spending the night with Phyllis Diller (although that has a nice ring to it). Warmest best wishes to you and I hope your 'Guardian Angel' will continue to hover over you." Accompanied by unsigned copy of a typed reply letter from Diller to Linkletter. Radio broadcaster, television personality and author Art Linkletter (1912-2010), hosted House Party, television's longest-running daytime variety show, on CBS from 1952-1969. The candid, often surprising responses from his interviews with youngsters on the show led to a series of Kids Say the Darndest Things books. He also hosted Inside Bevery Hills (1955) and The Art Linkletter Show (1963). More recently, Linkletter returned to television in a 1998 production of Kids Say the Darndest Things, which he co-hosted with fellow funnyman Bill Cosby. Paperclip impression at top left. Otherwise, fine condition.
