inst., with its enclosure, and am much obliged to you for sending it to me.
Yours very truly," Arthur Brisbane (1864-1936) is widely considered
one of the progenitors of modern yellow journalism, with its focus on blaring
headlines and sensational stories, as well as modern newspaper
journalism, with its emphasis on short sentences, eye-catching leads and lots of
pictures and photos. He began his journalism career as a reporter at the
New York Sun in 1883. He was made managing editor of William Randolph
Hearst's New York Journal in 1897. He used his position to help foment
the Spanish-American War. Brisbane was also one of the highest-paid
newspaper editors of his day - a fact directly linked to the circulation of the
Journal - and his editorial column Today (1917-1936) was
syndicated in over 1,000 newspapers. Louis R. Ehrich was an advocate of
free trade as a method of advancing universal peace. Horizontal and vertical
fold creases affecting signature. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine
condition.
