Summerfield's facsimile signature appears under the stamps on a special convention display. Postmarked New York, N. Y., April 28, 1956, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Arthur E. Summerfield (1899-1972) served as chairman of the Republican National Committee in 1952 and 1953. During the 1952 republican National Convention, the former gubernatorial candidate and state delegation chairman garnered Michigan support for Dwight Eisenhower as President, playing a large role in Eisenhower's nomination. In that office he worked to mechanize many postal operations and to promote the public image of what was then the Post Office Department. Fine condition.
