ARTHUR E. SUMMERFIELD
The Chairman of the Republican National Committee writes to a New
York man and tells him that he enjoyed his "General Ike" manuscript.
Typed Letter signed: "A.E. Summerfield" as Chairman of the
Republican National Committee, 1 page, 8½x11. Washington, D.C., 1952 July
30. To Mrs. M.I. Lynch, Croton-on-Hudson, New York. In full:
"Senator Lodge has forwarded to me your very fine manuscript 'General Ike.' I
very much enjoyed reading it and appreciate your sending it to me. Thank you for
your continued active interest and participation in our great crusade to elect
General Eisenhower and return Republican leadership to the nation" Arthur
E. Summerfield (1899-1972) served as chairman of the Republican National
Committee in 1952 and 1953. During the 1952 republican National Convention
he garnered Michigan support for Dwight Eisenhower as President, playing a large
role in Eisenhower's nomination. He was rewarded for his work for the party
by being appointed Postmaster General (1953-1961). Normal mailing folds.
