name at the closing of this note
Typed Note Signed: "Castle Stewart" in blue ink, 4x5¼, affixed to a 6½x5½ sheet of paper
containing an additional clipping about the signer's title and a diagram of the succession of the
title drawn by a previous collector. In full: "Dear Sir,/ thank you for your letter of the/ 4th
September. I enclose herewith/ an autograph, as desired./ I am sorry that I cannot go/ into the
question of genealogy./ Yours sincerely". Arthur Stuart (1889-1961) 7th Earl Castle Stewart
was an Anglo-Irish peer notable for serving as a Unionist politician. His family is descended
from King Robert II of Scotland. Stuart received an education from Charterhouse, Trinity
College, Cambridge, and the University of Paris. After fighting in World War I, he
succeeded the Earldom in 1921. Note and clipping affixed to the right of the note are toned.
