Letter from the piano duo to a group of friends, apologizing for not writing sooner, and congratulating them on a newly purchased house
Autograph letter signed: "Bobby", "A", in black ink, 3 pages (front and verso), 8¼x10½. July 9, 1959. Accompanied by original mailing envelope. Robert's letterin part: "Dearest Frank and Bill:- We've thought of you so often and we apologize for not having written sooner. Your letter arrived and your place sounds wonderful. Serendipity doesn't appeal to me but the house in the 70's does!". Arthur's letter in part: "Dear Boys: Of course you know Serendipity stands for Y things, which are not for us. - I wouldn't even give Bobby or you permission to have coffee there - I hope the palace in the 70's works out". ROBERT FIZDALE (1920-1995, born in Chicago, Illinois) and ARTHUR GOLD (1917-1990, born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) met while students at Juilliard. The partners helped transform the duo-piano repertory by commissioning and performing many new works. They appeared on a stage and on a number of recordings and were nominated for a 1963 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. Fizdale and Gold also authored the book, The Divine Sarah (1991), a biography of Sarah Bernhardt, the first international superstar. Lightly toned. Light surface creases. Multiple folds.
