BRITISH POLITICIANS: ARTHUR GREENWOOD and JAMES STUART. Signatures: "James. Stuart." and "Arthur Greenwood", 5½x3¾ album leaf. ARTHUR GREENWOOD (1880-1954) was a Member of Parliament from 1932-1954. A leader in the Labor Party in the 1920s through the late 1940s, Greenwood served as Minister of Health (1929-1931), Leader of the Opposition (1942-1945), Lord Privy Seal (1945-1947) and Paymaster General (1946-1947). In 1940, Winston Churchill appointed him as a Minister without Portfolio in the British War Cabinet. Greenwood's son, Anthony (1911-1982) was elected to Parliament in 1946. JAMES GRAY STUART (1897-1971) was a Scottish Tory politician who was a Member of Parliament from 1923-1959. Stuart served as Privy Councillor (1939), Tory Chief Whip (1941-1948) and joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury (1941-1945) before becoming Chairman of the Scottish Unionist Party (1950-1962) and Secretary of State for Scotland (1951-1957). In 1959, he was elevated to the peerage as 1st Viscount Stuart of Findhorn. Lightly creased. Soiled at blank areas. Irregular right edge from removal from bound book. Overall, fine condition.
