ARTHUR HOWARD
Small 4x5¾ b/w photo of light heavyweight Arthur Howard in trunks,
gloves and a fighting stance, signed "Keep Punching". Howard lost two
shots at the British title in 1957 and 1960.
Photograph signed "Keep Punching/Arthur Howard" in blue and
black ink.Black ink and lead pencil notations on verso in unknown hand.
Label in bottom left corner with black ink notations in unknown hand. B/w, 4x5¾
overall, 4x4½ image, one surface, printed on cardstock. Captioned:
"Arthur Howard/(Islington)/Light-Heavyweight". British light heavyweight
Howard, born in 1930, fought from 1951 to 1960 and amassed a record of
37-15-2, with 18 losses and three losses to knockout. Howard had two shots at
the the British light heavyweight title, on June 11, 1957 against Randy
Turpin and Jan. 28, 1960, his last fight, against to Chic Calderwood. He lost
both of them, although the fight with Turpin went 15 rounds, with Howard
knocking down his opponent thrice. Lightly toned and bowed. Pen skipped while
writing signature, which has low contrast in places but is legible. Lightly
creased and chipped corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
