A letter from the English footballer to a fan, briefly describing his
career, and apologizing for not responding soon
Autograph letter signed: "Arthur Loach", in blue ink, 3½x4½.
In part: "Dear Sir, I am pleased to give you the information you
require + I played for W.B.A. from 1880 until 1888 when Carlidge would've ended
my football career...Sorry for the delay but I was at West Balham and didn't come
to Rhyl until Staurday". Footballer Arthur Loach (1863-1958)
played as a forward for West Bromwich Albion in 1882, becoming one of the
first professionals when payment was legalized. Four years later, he moved
to Aston Villa, and soon after left Villa to Rhyl. He retired from playing in
1896 and opened a hotel. Splattered stains across front and back. Slight
surface creases. Smeared stains across front. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
