Director Arthur Lubin signed this document in 1966 to calculate his dues for the Directors Guild of America.
Document signed "Arthur Lubin". Lead and red pencil and red and blue ink notations, all in unknown hand. 1 page, 8½x11. Feb. 2, 1966. Lubin filled out this document to calculate his 1966 dues for the Directors Guild of America, which were based on his earnings as a producer or director. Lubin stated that he earned $84,147.09 in 1965 and estimated that he would earn $5,000 in 1966. That year, Lubin directed episodes of Mr. Ed and the movie Hold On!. American director Lubin (1898-1995) got his start as an actor of both stage and silent film in the mid-1920s before breaking into directing. You probably know him best as a director of comedies, including directing Abbot and Costello in 5 of their movies - Buck Privates (1941), In the Navy (1941), Hold That Ghost (1941), Keep 'Em Flying (1941) and Ride 'Em Cowboy (1942) - and 6 Francis the Talking Mule movies - Francis (1949), Francis Goes to the Races (1951), Francis Goes to West Point (1952), Francis Joins the WACs (1954) and Francis in the Navy (1955). Other notable films include big budget spectacles like Phantom of the Opera with Claude Rains and Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, both from 1943, and low budgget horror films like Black Friday (1940). Lubin made the jump to TV in 1959 and returned to his talking animal trope directing Mr. Ed (1958-1966) as well as episodes of 77 Sunset Strip (1959), The Deputy (1959-1960), Maverick (1959-1960) and Bonanza (1960). In all, Lubin directed almost 80 movies and TV shows between 1934 and 1981. Lightly creased. Carbon copy marks. Light tear in top left corner. Light nicks at bottom edge. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
