ARTHUR M. HEATHCOTE
Writing to club owner Luther Munday, he promises to provide a 10-minute entertainment, accompanied by his son.
Autograph Letter signed: "Arthur M. Heathcote", 2 pages (integral leaf), 4½x7. 40 Cramley Gardens S. W. [London], 1900 February 16. To "Dear Mr. [Luther] Munday, in full: "I shall be very glad to accept your kind invitation for Mar. 16th and to bring my little boy with me to do a short scene. We do a bit of Humphrey from 'Misunderstood' which would be just the think I should think as it only takes 10 minutes and needs no costumes or properties. I shall conclude unless I hear anything to the contrary that this is as much as you would want us to do. Yours truly". English playwright Arthur M. Heathcote (1847-1934) wrote theatrical comedies, including The Super and His Comic Genius. He also wrote a vivid account of a trip to the Andes (1873-1874). Heathcote held the office of Honorable Treasurer of the Play Actors. He was the son of Sir William Heathcote, 5th Baronet, but the noble title passed to his older brother. Arthur Heathcote had 8 children, including three sons. If the son accompanying him on this visit to club owner and theatrical manager Luther Munday was James Shirley Heathcote, that youth was destined to perish in World War I. One horizontal fold. Lightly worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
