Autograph Note Signed: "Best of luck on your collection/Arthur Schlesinger Jr", 1p, 8½x11.
Written at lower portion of photocopied typed letter with copied signature of "Mrs. Stevens".
Begins: "Dear Arthur" (name written in unknown hand). In full: "I am enclosing these three
cards for signature. Very recently I have become a widow. My husband and I have been very
happily married for 58 wonderful years. He was bed ridden with cancer during his last year of life.
We became involved in collecting autographs to give to our three grandchildren after our demise. I
am now living in a home for the elderly. I am still collecting signatures to occupy my time as well
as to give to our grandchildren as an inheritance. Thank you for your kindness. SASE enclosed for
your convenience." Author and historian Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. was awarded two Pulitzer
Prizes: the 1946 Pulitzer Prize in History for The Age of Jackson andthe 1966 Pulitzer
Prize in Biography for A Thousand Days, subtitled John F. Kennedy in the White House.
Schlesinger had been a presidential special assistant and speechwriter from 1961-1964.
Lightly creased with folds, horizontal fold at 1 word of writing. Ink note (unknown hand) on
verso. Nicked at upper blank edge. Light black mark at lower left edge, light stain at left edge
on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
