ARTHUR MILLER
Final stage version of his play After the Fall, the thinly veiled story of his marriage to Marilyn Monroe, signed on the half-title page
Book signed: "Arthur Miller", 5x7¾, 155 pages. After the Fall (Final Stage Version), by Arthur Miller. New York: The Viking Press, 1964. Soft cover. MILLER (1915-2005) raised America's social consciousness with such plays as The Crucible (1953), based on the Salem, Massachusetts witchcraft trials, and Death of a Salesman, the story of a man destroyed by society's false values, for which he won the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Miller, who was the second husband of Marilyn Monroe, also wrote the screenplay for the 1961 film, The Misfits, the last full-length film in which Monroe appeared. After the Fall (1964) is Miller's thinly disguised reflection on his marriage to Marilyn Monroe. Staged and plotted in a very unconventional way, After the Fall was not very popular with theater critics or audiences; some considered it poor taste to portray Monroe's suicide so soon after the event. But the play is much admired in the academic community as a brutally honest personal reflection. Very lightly soiled. Corners slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
