ARTHUR MULLARD
The actor pens a letter talking about his career highlights in blue ink
Autograph Letter signed: "Arthur Mullard" in blue ink, 1p, 7x9. No place, no date. To "Dear Sir". In full: "In answer to your request it gives me great pleasure to send you a signed photograph with this breif [sic] of my career, which started in 1946 in the British Film Studios starting as Bit part player, stunt man, stand in, double feature player and guest star Billing. In television I worked as a feature player for many years and then starred in my own series called 'Yus my dear'. I've had the lead several times in Radio plays but apart from interviews have not worked a great deal in that media. The theatre is another scene which I've avoided many times because it takes up too much of my time but Joe worked in most of the theaters in and around London. After making ten Records I eventually got a hit with Hylda Bates as co-star in a comedy send-up of 'You're the one I want' from the film Grease. / Best Wishes". Arthur Ernest Mullard (1910-1995) was an English actor and singer. Mullard joined the British Army for three years beginning when he was 18. He began boxing during his service time and continued to box professionally after leaving the Army. He had 20 fights over the course of three years, one of which ended in a knockout delivered by his opponent. At the onset of World War II, Mullard rejoined the military, becoming a sergeant major in the Royal Artillery. Mullard is best known for appearing in Romany Jones (1972-1975), in which he played the character of Wally Briggs. A sequel sitcom followed: Yus, My Dear, broadcast in 1976. Mullard was also in a handful of films including Morgan! (1966), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), and Holiday on the Buses (1971). In addition to his acting career, Mullard released several singles: "I Love You, You Love Me"/"Was It Something I Said" (1967), "Not Now Arthur"/"If I Only Had My Time Again" (1974), and "You're the One That I Want" (1978) with Hylda Baker. Right edge irregular from being neatly torn. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
