Autograph letter signed: "Ashley Stephenson" in blue ink.
5¾x2¾. June 12, 1972, written on letterhead of the Department of the Environment
to "Dear Mr. Croxford". In full: "Thank you for your letter of
30th November passed on to me by the Evening News! I was interested to read
about your exploits! Yours Sincerely". Ashley Stephenson was the
Superintendent of the Central London Royal Parks. After growing up with a
gardener for a father he worked in greenhouses and commercial gardens before
attending the Royal Horticulture School. Eventually Stephenson became in
charge of the upkeep of gardens surrounding Buckingham Palace, St. James's
Palace and Kensington Palace. Toned. Lightly creased throughout. Edges
irregular. Newspaper clippings affixed. Re-enforced holes in right margin.
