First day cover bearing 15-cent stamp honoring Associate Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes postmarked Boston, MA, June 14, 1978, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Holmes served as Associate Justice from 1902-1932. He was succeeded by Benjamin Cardozo (1932-1938) who was succeeded by Felix Frankfurter (1938-1962). President Kennedy appointed his Secretary of Labor, Arthur J. Goldberg, to succeed Frankfurter in 1962. Goldberg served until he resigned in 1965 to succeed Adlai Stevenson as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Fine condition.
