ARTHUR GOLDBERG
Postcard Photograph signed on verso: "Arthur J. Goldberg", 6x4.
On front is color photo of the U.S. Supreme Court building. No stamp or postmark
on card. A labor lawyer, Goldberg (1908-1990) served as President
Kennedy's Secretary of Labor (1961-1962) before being appointed
Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. In 1965, he was convinced by LBJ
to give up his lifetime Supreme Court appointment to succeed the late Adlai E.
Stevenson as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Goldberg's
frustration at the continuing escalation of the Vietnam War prompted him to
resign his U.N. post in 1968. Faint pencil erasure in upper right corner. Fine
condition.
